Meriden Public Schools is committed to fostering a culture of athletic excellence and team participation at all grade levels. Our schools offer a wide range of sports programs, providing opportunities for students to develop their physical abilities, learn valuable life skills, and build lasting friendships. From elementary school intramurals to high school varsity competitions, our athletics programs play a vital role in the educational experience of Meriden students.


Meriden High School Sports

Maloney High SchooPlatt High SchoolMore than 20 sports are offered at each of Meriden’s two high schools, Maloney High School and Platt High School. Both schools compete in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC)’s CCC South division and have numerous varsity, junior varsity, and freshman athletic programs.

In recent years, Meriden high school teams have been individual state champions in girls swimming, indoor track, and outdoor track and field, and in 2021, the Maloney Spartans won the first state football championship in Meriden history. Among our graduating students of 2021–2023, 74 athletes went on to play in college.

Both schools also offer Unified Sports, a Special Olympics program that unites people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same sports teams. Maloney High School’s unified sports program has been recognized by the Special Olympics of CT / CIAC.

Meriden Middle School Sports

Across Meriden’s three middle schools, a variety of sports are offered, including soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, cross country, and track & field. All three middle schools also participate in city-wide co-ops for swimming and lacrosse.

Like our high schools, Meriden middle schools have the Unified Sports program, allowing individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to train and play together, and to become friends as well as teammates.

Meriden Elementary School Sports

Meriden’s eight elementary schools offer a variety of intramural-type activities which promote skills like cooperation, respect, communication, and sportsmanship. These activities help prepare our young students for a future of success in athletics and in life.
